Gorah is malaria-free, Big 5 and a member of Relais & Chateaux.

Thesen Island as it is called is home to a collection of up-market homes linked to each other and the Knysna lagoon through a series of water ways. Several years ago an ambitious project to transform the power station into a boutique hotel began, the result of which is breathtaking in its ‘industrial’ mystique. Given the heritage status of the power station, most of the primary components were left in position and now form an integral part of the theme of the hotel.

The Turbine Hotel and Spa has 24 bedrooms and suites and an Amani African Spa. The rooms all have “state of the art” accessories. Some bedrooms have balconies and on the ground level, they have their own delightful garden. The honeymoon “Oyster” suite is situated at the top of the hotel and is splendid.

The Island Café is a unique 90 seater restaurant and ideal for breakfasts, lunches and a la carte dinners and has won the Diners Club Platinum Award for its wine list. In addition there is The Turbine Tapas Bar where you can enjoy light meals.

Additional facilities include conferencing for up to 60 delegates, a pool and a jetty with guest mooring and a motorized pontoon for sunset cruises on the lagoon.
